Gifted and talented students need extra support to succeed in school and beyond. One way to support these students is with instructional technology.
The Importance of Instructional Technology Integration
It doesn’t matter if students are learning face-2-face, virtually, or in a hybrid setup, instructional technology is an essential part of daily learning.
To begin with, students need to understand how technology works so they can make positive choices when using it. They should be taught how to evaluate websites and apps before trusting or using them.
For example, teach students how to evaluate a website by comparing a trusted site and a suspicious site. Create a Venn Diagram for students to fill in with their observations for each site. Be sure you preview the suspicious site before “going live” with the lesson. Finally, use a trusted site that students will use often in class.
A few of my favorite sites include: Ducksters, National Geographic for Kids, and Khan Academy.
How to Teach with Instructional Technology.
Technology has changed our lives. It’s changed the way we learn and communicate. We use computers, tablets, smartphones, and other devices to access educational materials. In addition, the platforms available have changed dramatically! This means the types of content students consume has also changed dramatically.
Students now consume short-form videos over longer versions. In addition, text is delivered in shorter forms through graphics. As teachers, we can use new trends to plan engaging lessons centered around instructional technology.
